September is National Preparedness Month and a good reminder to inventory your emergency supplies. Ideally, you should have food and water for at least three days for each person in your family. You can find lists for creating emergency kits here.
You don’t need to make one big, expensive shopping trip. Instead, add a few things to your list each week. If you don’t already have large items like a battery-powered lamp or crank radio, consider purchasing those, as well.
Even if you don’t live in a hurricane or earthquake zone, any number of emergency situations can occur. Having a kit is one step toward being prepared.
