On February 17, 2009 television sets will no longer receive an analog signal. If you don’t have a digital tuner in your TV set, you will not get a picture.
Starting January 1, 2008 you can contact the government to receive two coupons worth $40 each to buy converter boxes so you can still use your older, analog TV. Several companies have manufactured converter boxes that have been approved by the government. Retailers will begin selling the boxes, which translate the digital signal for analog TV sets, in mid February.
You can apply for coupons by calling 888/DTV-2009 or by going to the government Web site http://www.DTV2009.gov starting January 1. There is no income cap on consumers who want the coupons. The coupon program ends March 31, 2009.
